My name is Adlether Parker. I am the proud mother of 3 adult children, Dvontay, Destiny, and Juwan. Two of my children have served in the military (Air Force and Navy), and all 3 are college students. I take pride in being able to have 3 grand dogs, Cali, Bailey, and Professor. My hobbies include playing softball, fishing, taking nature walks, traveling, being a foodie, enjoying the outdoors, journaling, and living outwardly through a tourist mind perspective.
Although I enjoy being challenged and find solitude in being a rebel, it brings me great joy reflecting back over my journey of being a successor of all my failures. I have not always had such an outlook. This is especially being that I have multiple layers of direct and indirect trauma. I have lived experiences as a TBI / SCI survivor. In 2015, I fell at work, injuring my head and causing my spine to be misaligned. In 2016, I was in an MVA. In 2017, I was in 3 MVA’s. The last MVA was 12/2/2017, when the medical team had to break my vehicle door, cut me out of my vehicle, and rush me to the trauma center.
This event, I suffered another major TBI, loss of consciousness for an undetermined time span, and paralysis from C3-C4. I began experiencing surmounting physical, cognitive, emotional, and mental deficits. I have regained my mobility and restructured the means to advocate for myself. It has not been an easy process to overcome the years of grief, losing me. Yet it has been necessary and helped me to become a mental health advocate, peer mentor, consultant, and a BIPOC women walking group leader.
I also have earned 3 college undergraduate degrees while building a new platform for life. Over the course of rebuilding my life, I began participating, hosting, and facilitating mental health support groups and mentoring to my peers. I gain a new meaning of life’s purpose with the rising of every day. My natural default has always been centered on giving my service over self. It is inspiring to listen to others’ journeys. I believe the USA of Georgia offers a selfless sense of humanity that brings all people together in fellowship. I am grateful to be a part of the USA of Georgia support team.
