Cameron Piorek, born February 28, 1991, grew up in Orange County, California playing video games his whole life — until April 2008, when he broke his neck in a high school lacrosse game at 17, leaving him a C6 quadriplegic.
Unable to use his fingers to work a regular game controller, he largely gave up on video games and focused his time on school and wheelchair rugby. That changed in 2016 when he watched his friends play Overwatch and realized how much fun he was missing out on. He bought a gaming PC and built his own custom controller setup however he could.
Six years later, he now plays a number of competitive shooters using a fight stick and a modded mouse — and wishes he had figured it out sooner.
